Tree Trimming & Pruning

Structural pruning that respects the tree's biology.

Tree Trimming & Pruning

Pruning done correctly extends a tree's life and reduces the likelihood it becomes a hazard — pruning done incorrectly (topping, lion-tailing, flush cuts) does the opposite. Cedar & Oak follows ANSI A300 pruning standards on every job, which means we only remove what needs to come off and we make each cut at the right angle and location to promote compartmentalization and fast wound closure.

We don't just climb the tree and cut what looks big. Before we start, we walk the tree with you, identify the pruning objectives (structural improvement, clearance, light penetration, storm resistance, or a combination), and agree on scope. The result is a tree that looks naturally balanced, not like it was attacked from one side.

What's included

  • ANSI A300 pruning standards on every job — no topping, ever
  • Pre-job walk with the arborist to agree on pruning objectives
  • Deadwood removed on every pruning visit at no additional charge
  • Crown cleaning, crown thinning, and structural pruning all available

Common questions

How often do my trees need to be pruned?
Most mature shade trees benefit from a structural pruning inspection every 3–5 years. Young trees should be pruned more frequently (every 1–3 years) to establish good structure early. Fruit trees and ornamentals vary — we'll give you a specific recommendation on the estimate visit.
Why won't you top my tree?
Topping removes the majority of a tree's leaf area, forces it to produce rapid, weakly-attached regrowth, and permanently compromises its structural integrity. The regrowth that follows topping is more hazardous than the original canopy — and it grows back fast. We'll discuss the actual goal (clearance, light, size reduction) and recommend an alternative that achieves it without harming the tree.
